Chris Martin - Founder of Tribal
Sustainability is deep-rooted in Tribal's purpose. Our partnership with the 'Baobab Alliance' has inspired and solidified Tribal's business model and thought process that supports nature, ecology, and people.
'Sustained by Nature' has become a guiding principle that enables us to think holistically about our bigger picture and future, and it is continually allowing us to develop a more sustainable business footprint.
Do you like to know where your food comes from and what its footprint is? Alike many of our customers, we do.
Sustainable nutrition means growing, harvesting, transporting and processing food in a way that considers the long-term needs of both people and ecosystems. Tribal's brand values aim to respect our playground; our natural environment.
We have committed to creating a sustainable nutrition brand by being aware of how our ingredient and packing sourcing impacts our environmental footprint. We've made these vital choices to promote more sustainable products and a better way of life.
Our products have been created using only 100% organic ingredients certified by the 'Organic Food Federation'. This means our ingredients are grown using conservation agriculture that has a lower impact on the environment, producing food grown with organic manure instead of chemical fertilisers, which nurture healthier soils with reduced water use and pollution.
Organic certification of the Baobab fruit by ECOCERT means that African communities have worked together to agree that no pesticides or fertilisers can be used within 50 metres of any baobab trees, securing the future of the fruit, its ecosystems and people.
We buy our Baobab fruit directly from baobab collectors cooperatives in the Baobab Alliance, an organisation linking over 200 communities across Africa that sets a fair export price for baobab for buyers in Europe, Asia and the USA.
Baobab trees are part of the ecosystems known as Savannah woodlands that African communities rely on. We are championing this powerful alliance as a social and economic partnership working towards the conservation of Africa's botanical resources and the protection of biodiversity.
We have a lot going on in the background behind the doors at Tribal. With sustainability at our core, we are setting our sights on achieving B Corp status within the next 3-5 years and becoming a next-generation decarbonised sustainable nutrition company. We expect to pass the following benefits on to our customers:
- Offering recyclable plastic pouches in Summer 2021
- By 2023, we will use our own 100% compostable packaging. It is a big target, but we believe this is a significant and necessary step.
- Decarbonising our business with solar energy links and negative carbon food growing.
At every step, we will continue to provide our customers with the worlds best baobab focussed nutrition and recipes designed to achieve optimum performance and health and wellbeing.
